Les Violons du Roy, the internationally recognized chamber orchestra, based in Quebec City, takes its name from the orchestra of the 17th century French royal court, “Les vingt-quatre Violons du Roi.”  Numbering 15 musicians, the orchestra performs on modern instruments and incorporates period performance practices in approaching repertoire of the 17th & 18th centuries. Winners of two Juno awards, the first was for  their 2001 New York performance of Mozart’s “Requiem”, a week after the tragic events of September 11th in that city.
